3 Steps to Overcoming the Fear of Asking for What You Need for Your Nonprofit

What Are You Asking God For?

What do you think is too hard that fear is keeping you from even asking?

Is it your purpose?

Taking Initial steps for your nonprofit?

Expanding funding sources for your nonprofit?

Kids love to ask parents for things that they want. They are not afraid to ask. Even though it might be a big ask, but they did not let it stop them.

If we let fear stop from asking, we don’t receive.

In the Bible, we see that God loves to give good gifts to us as His children! Why is it, then, that we don’t ask for what we need for our nonprofit mission?

Asking is easy for kids, but is it easy for us? Are we allowing our fear to get in the way?

Last year about this time we needed $42,000 very quickly to be able to make life better for our girls and staff. This is on top of our monthly budget at the time of $4,000/month!

As I was seeking Him on where to get those funds I put some feelers out through a FB fundraiser. As I prayed I heard Him say take care of your current donors and stay quiet and let me surprise you.

I thought that’s great but that’s not going to bring us more money!

Well long story short, by focusing on the current systems for taking care of our donors, and us staying quiet, He brought the funds in just over 1 month.

Let’s focus on three promises from God that remind us to dream big with God in our nonprofit mission.

1. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened. “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:7-12‬ ‭NIV‬‬

2. Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

If our kids ask us for bread would we gives them a stone? Or if our sister, brother, uncle, or even best friend asked us for a gift would we give them the worst gift ever? Matthew 7:9 NIV

3. “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.”1 John‬ ‭5:14-15‬ ‭NIV‬‬

As we approach God with confidence, standing on the promises of His Word, He hears us and answers. Does it always look like we want, it’s even better!

Trust Him to handle the details by asking!

1. Write it down. Keep it all together in a notebook or journal.

2. Let go of how you think He should best provide whatever it is you need. Maybe you don’t know how to get started, you don’t know what He’s called you to do, maybe you need finances, volunteers, wisdom. Let go of fear and ASK HIM!

3. Watch for how He pulls it together! Be open to anything because He works in mysterious ways.

Yes, these are difficult times but God is powerful. More powerful than a pandemic, gas prices, food prices, famine. He’s got you here for such a time as this! Your purpose to desperately needed by those He has called you to. Just ask - He will deliver!
